Carbon-built, 44-knot passenger platform redefines the economics of commercial ferry operation

Polis, Cyprus — 19 June 2026 — AEOMAR Ltd today announced its appointment as the official sales agent for the Maldivia 45 across Europe and the United States. The 14.78-metre high-speed utility vessel, built from carbon and glass-fibre epoxy prepreg composites, is engineered to move passengers faster, lighter and far more profitably than conventional ferries — and AEOMAR will now introduce the platform to operators throughout both regions.
The Maldivia 45 (M45) was designed around a single principle: weight is cost. Where comparable vessels operate at 21 tonnes or more fully loaded, the M45 runs at just 10–13 tonnes. That structural advantage reduces fuel demand by 40–70% and holds draft below 0.90 metres, opening up harbours, shallow approaches and routes that heavier vessels simply cannot serve.
For operators, the savings compound season after season. In its most efficient diesel configuration the M45 burns 72 litres per hour at 30 knots. Measured against a best-selling 48-foot competitor consuming roughly 360 litres per hour, that translates into documented fuel savings of up to USD 891,000 per year at world-average fuel prices. In its all-electric form, annual running costs fall to as little as USD 116,640.
Performance is not sacrificed for efficiency. The Maldivia 45 reaches 44 knots in its V12 configuration and cruises comfortably above 30 knots across every drive option — petrol, diesel, electric, LNG or hydrogen. A 1,200-litre tank delivers a 300-nautical-mile range at full load, freeing operators from refuelling stops on longer routes.
Built on FEM-validated structural design and CFD-optimised hull analysis, the M45 carries up to 55 passengers across eight reconfigurable interior layouts, from high-density commuter seating to VIP touring. Passenger comfort is engineered to the same standard as the hull: panoramic reflective glazing, dual-redundant CTM Marine air conditioning, and a stern washroom. Each vessel is DNV or CE classified, epoxy-built for zero osmosis, and finished end-to-end with protective rubber bumpers and ALEXSEAL polyurethane paint for a long, profitable working life.

The platform is now in active production. Maldivia Shipyard recently demoulded the first carbon hull at just 857 kilograms — a remarkable 100 kilograms under target — following completion of structural engineering and the commissioning of a dedicated production facility.
"The Maldivia 45 is the rare boat that wins on a spreadsheet and on the water," said Hans Genthe, spokesperson for AEOMAR. "I have spent my life around performance sailing and composite construction, and what excites me about this vessel is that the engineering pays the operator back every single day — in fuel not burned, in routes suddenly within reach, in passengers who actually want to ride again. For European and American operators working under real cost pressure, that combination of speed, range and economy is exactly what the market has been missing."
AEOMAR will support operators across both regions from enquiry through specification, configuration and delivery, drawing on the company's own background in sustainable, high-performance composite boat building.
Operators and media in Europe and the United States can request full sales documentation and technical specifications directly from AEOMAR.
